Keep an eye out for purple people

February 14, 2018 BY

TORQUAY’S school communities are again dressing up to support the Surf Coast Relay for Life this year, as Gilbert Street turns purple.

Several schools participated in the “Be Purple Day” initiative in 2017 and had a lot of fun getting dressed-up for the occasion.

This year’s activities, both at the schools and in Gilbert Street as part of the “Paint the Town Purple” competition, are designed to bring a better awareness of International Cancer Awareness and what it represents to the community.

Many Gilbert Street retailers and restaurants are decorating or have decorated the inside and outside of their businesses, with the best decorated business to be rewarded with a $100 voucher.

Be Purple Day will take place tomorrow (Friday) at Bellbrae Primary School, Torquay College and Surf Coast Secondary College, with St Therese Catholic Primary School and Torquay Coast Primary School possible inclusions.

The Surf Coast Relay for Life itself will be held on March 16-17 at Polwarth Oval.
