JUST over 12,000 people over the age of 15 across Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the latest figures from the federal government.

The true figure is likely even smaller, as the highest figure possible for a local government area is “above 95 per cent”, which all three municipalities have achieved.

The statistics also do not include Victorian children aged 12, 13, or 14, who have all been eligible to be vaccinated since late August.

Geographic vaccination rates by LGA are updated online on Sunday each week.

According to the numbers, 12,050 people in the City of Greater Geelong, the Surf Coast Shire and the Borough of Queenscliffe have not received either a first or second dose of the vaccine:

  • City of Greater Geelong – No more than five per cent unvaccinated (or 10,591 people), 17.6 per cent without at least one dose (or 37,282 people)
  • Surf Coast Shire – No more than five per cent unvaccinated (or 1,329 people), 7.5 per cent without at least one dose (or 1,993 people)
  • Borough of Queenscliffe – No more than five per cent unvaccinated or without at least one dose (or 130 people).

Of the three LGAs, the borough’s full vaccination rate for the eligible population is likeliest to reach 100 per cent first (if it has not already), as the municipality won its race with the Buloke Shire to be the first council to reach the 80 per cent double vaccination target, reaching the figure in mid-September.

As of the October 24 update, 90.56 of Victorians over the age of 16 have received their first dose, and 74.74 per cent have received both.
