Lorne FNC muscle up to help with flood cleanup
MORE than 50 members of the Lorne Football Netball Club sprang into action this past week to assist with the flood clean up mission in Cumberland River.
Junior and senior players, coaches, parents, committee members, sponsors and supporters came on Monday to put in the hard yards to aid the recovery mission.
On Thursday last week, rivers broke their banks as intense, highly localised rainfall triggered life-threatening flooding, sweeping through low-lying areas, creek crossings and coastal campgrounds.
Caravans were seen floating offshore and multiple vehicles were carried downstream as floodwaters surged toward the ocean.

Groups cleaned up rubbish and debris from the area and transported it away by bus, skips and with protective gear.
In a Facebook post, Lorne FNC president Carly Enticott said she was incredibly proud of the power of work done by the club’s members.
“Thank you to all for an incredible team effort from our community. An idea floated by club members Aaron and Mick and supported by Leon quickly grew momentum and wheels were in motion.
“Our thanks also go to our club members and sponsors who sprang into action on Thursday to offer aid, comfort and even their homes to those affected.
“To our members who working are on the front line through this challenging period of summer we see you and appreciate your efforts and commitment to our community.
“Here’s to an uneventful remainder of summer with an incredible unity of our community. Be safe, take care and Up the Pod.”
