McHappy Day nears

November 14, 2019 BY

McHappy Day is on Saturday, November 16.

WITH McHappy Day set to return to Torquay on Saturday, November 16, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is calling on the local community to show their support by forming a ‘Bucket Brigade’ to help raise vital funds for seriously ill children and their families.

Local volunteers wishing to lend a hand in support of RMHC can form a Bucket Brigade and join forces to encourage Torquay residents to give generously and make McHappy Day the biggest year yet.

Residents wishing to pledge their support to the cause can visit their local McDonald’s restaurant for more information.

As the largest annual fundraiser for RMHC Australia nationally, McHappy Day is instrumental in raising funds for the charity, which helps keep families together while their seriously ill child undergoes treatment.

Since its inception in Australia in 1991, McHappy Day has raised more than $46 million for RMHC.

With more ways to donate than ever before, Torquay residents can also show their support for McHappy Day by buying a Big Mac from McDonald’s on Saturday November 16 with $2 from every Big Mac sold going directly to RMHC, or picking-up a pair of $5 Silly Socks or a Helping Hand for $2, $10 or $50 at your local Macca’s.

Last year, funds raised from McHappy Day in Victoria helped provide:

  • More than 57,468 nights of accommodation for more than 1,616 families
  • More than 630 students received tutoring through The Ronald McDonald Learning Program
  • More than 5,904 families spent quality time together in a Ronald McDonald Family Room

McHappy Day donations fund programs including Ronald McDonald Houses, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, the Ronald McDonald Learning Program and the Ronald McDonald
Family Retreats.

“McHappy Day is crucial in raising funds for families with seriously ill children who are undergoing treatment,” McDonald’s Torquay licensee Stuart Coomes said.

“We are encouraging the community to get involved and show their support this Saturday by donating a gold coin at McDonald’s or picking up of Silly Socks or helping hands.”
