NAB chief economist to headline Surf Coast FC business breakfast

BUSINESS leaders and community members across the Surf Coast are invited to connect at a business breakfast presented by Surf Coast FC next week, with expert economic insights set to headline the morning.

Hosted at the Torquay club and organised by local firm GSC Finance, the event will feature NAB chief economist Gareth Spence, who will provide an outlook on the Australian economy.

A local market update will also be delivered by Natural Real Estate’s Shaun O’Callaghan and Chris Henson.

Surf Coast FC committee member, GSC Finance director and event organiser, Damien Pearson, said the breakfast was designed to bring high-level business insights closer to the local community.

“One of the things we’re trying to do is increase the value proposition for our sponsors and members,” he said.

“A lot of the business updates and economic updates, you’ve got to head into Geelong for them, whereas we’re trying to bring it more local.

 

 

“Given the time and what’s going on at the moment overseas, it’ll be quite pertinent information Pearson said securing a speaker of Spence’s calibre was a significant coup for the region and highlighted the value of hosting the event locally.

The breakfast is the first of several events planned for 2026, as Surf Coast FC looks to strengthen its engagement with sponsors and the wider business community.

“It’s been important for us as a club as we’ve grown to try and generate value to our sponsors and members as well, other than just taking their money and giving them a pitch to play on,” Pearson said.

“We’re trying to differentiate ourselves and provide a little bit more value in that way.

“There’s so many good businesses out here on the Surf Coast as well – it’s good to have something to bring them together.”

The breakfast will be held on Wednesday 25 March from 7.30am to 9am. Tickets are available via the GSC Finance website.
