AN UPGRADE for camping facilities at Lorne’s Queens Park is underway.

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authoirty (GORCAPA) started construction on Monday (May 23) for a revamp to the Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park site.

The Queens Park area will remain closed until late November, when the Authority plans to open the new facilities in time for the peak summer period.

Construction will include a new enclosed kitchen and undercover barbecue area, an upgrade of an existing toilet block and water tanks.

Features of the upgrade include new seating for the kitchen and and barbecue and disability-compliant conveniences such as ramps.

GORCAPA chief executive officer Jodie Sizer said the construction would improve the park’s visitor experience.

“Great Ocean Road tourism has taken a big blow throughout the COVID pandemic and projects like this will help the local industry thrive once again and provide new and returning visitors an even better experience,” Ms Sizer said.

“Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park is one of our most popular sites and we look forward to getting these works completed head of the peak summer season and welcoming guests to experience the new facilities.”
