THE Drop is returning to Torquay next year, but ticketholders to the event cancelled more than two years ago still cannot get a refund yet.

The music festival – which usually runs in proximity to the Australian World Surf League tour – will be held on Torquay Common on April 8, 2023, but existing ticketholders will have to wait until the lineup is announced before they can exercise any of their options.

The April 11, 2020 edition of The Drop in Torquay was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, with the organisers saying at the time they had already covered pre-event costs for all the festival’s events across Australia, and were thus unable to refund tickets until an insurance claim was resolved.

In late June 2021, organisers revealed they had won a tribunal case over their cancellation insurance claim and expected to settle “in coming weeks”, and the tribunal decision would allow The Drop events to go ahead again in 2022.

This did not happen, with The Drop Team citing restrictions on mass gatherings and interstate travel, combined with general business uncertainty and low consumer confidence” in a statement in March of this year.

“As we’ve attempted to explain in the past, in order for us to refund ticket holders we need the ability to confidently deliver events,” The Drop Team stated.

“We are still committed to repaying each and every one of you the minute we are recapitalised with the ability to do so.”An email sent out to subscribers on Tuesday morning announced The Drop would be coming to Bondi on October 15 and Coffs Harbour on October 22, with artists on the lineup to include Tones And I, Matt Corby, Dune Rats, Cub Sport, Gretta Ray, Shag Rock, TOWNS and Hallie.

This email also stated the date and location for The Drop’s 2023 event in Torquay, as well as options for ticketholders to the 2020 event. They are:

Roll their ticket over to join the Bondi or Coffs Harbour events

Roll their ticket over to join the Torquay on April 8, 2023, with links to be issued once the lineup is announced, or

Get a full refund once the Torquay lineup has been announced, with refunds to be processed within 14 days.

The Drop Team stated the lineup would be announced “soon” but did not give specifics.

“We know we sound like a broken record, but we can’t drive home enough how much we appreciate your patience regarding The Drop refunds; we have been working to ensure that all of you who want a refund will get one,” organisers wrote on their Facebook page on Tuesday this week.

“We want to make the process for those of you who are keen to stick with us and come to the new event dates as seamless as possible, which requires aligning this info with the lineup announcement, so you have all the details ahead of making that decision.”
