VISITORS and locals are being urged to be mindful of others when enjoying the Surf Coast with their dogs this summer.

Dog timeshare zones are now in effect across designated areas of the Surf Coast Shire until February 28, and will apply again over the Easter long weekend.

Under the restrictions, dogs are permitted in timeshare zones between 7pm and 9am, but are not allowed during the day from 9am to 7pm.

The shire’s acting general manager of community life, Travis Nelson, said rangers would conduct joint patrols with the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority throughout summer, focusing on both education and enforcement.

“We are keen for dog owners and non-dog owners alike to be respectful of each other and share our beautiful open spaces over summer,” Mr Nelson said.

“It’s a great time of year to enjoy the outdoors. We ask that people with dogs adhere to restrictions, keep them under control at all times and always pick up after them.”

Information about timeshare zones and where dogs are permitted can be found at surfcoast.vic.gov.au/WhereToWalkYourDog, with brochures also available from the shire’s office in Torquay and visitor information centres in Torquay, Anglesea and Lorne.
