THE 3230 Rubbish Rangers group has been lauded for their dedication to the local environmental and received a national volunteer award for their efforts.

The local environmental unit received a special certificate from the Federal Member for Wannon, Dan Tehan last week to thank them for their commitment to keeping the town of Anglesea tidy during the past twelve months.

Established in 2021, the 3230 Rubbish Rangers has more than 40 members who collect rubbish each weekend throughout Anglesea and on the “mad mile” road strip between Anglesea and Bellbrae.

Volunteer John McIntrye said the group was humbled to receive their first national award.

“We don’t really know who nominated us, but we are just absolutely thrilled to be recognised with this honour.

“We aren’t sure how many awards Dan and his office gave out, but we are most certainly privileged to be one of them.

“Many people have noticed the town has become tidier over the last few years and it’s become a very social activity.

“We clean-up for an hour or two, and then head off and have a coffee and socialise for another few.

“There’s eight-year-olds and there’s 80-year-olds. Everyone is welcome and we’ve got a regular spread of different ages each time.”

Mr McIntyre said the group continued to be humbled by the community and local businesses who support them.

“We continue to get anonymous donations from our community and local organisations who recognise the power of our work.

“Darcy from Hayden’s is still buying us our coffees each weekend.

“We are very appreciative of these kinds of gestures.”

The 3230 Rubbish Rangers meet at the Anglesea Bowling Club each Saturday at 9am.
