SBA junior 3×3 returns
JUNIOR basketballers are set to turn their summer holidays into a fast-paced festival of hoops as the Surfcoast Basketball Association’s 3×3 Competition returns next week.
Now in its fourth year, the tournament brings together junior teams from across the region for a high-energy and competitive style of basketball.
The under 11 and 13 tournaments will run on Monday, January 19, and the under 15 and 17 tournaments on Tuesday, January 20.
Domestic competition administrator Kristi Doyle said that the tournament seeks to improve pathways for junior domestic basketballers in the Surf Coast through a fun and quick event.
“We know there’s a strong appetite for tournament basketball, and hosting one here allows our players to experience that environment without having to be a representative player,” she said.
The tournament will be included in the 3×3 State Qualifying Series, giving teams and players even more incentive to compete.
“Basketball Victoria have designed a pathway where teams can compete in Association-hosted tournaments, and have their results go towards entrance into the State Championship Qualifiers,” Doyle explained.
“It gives local players the chance to test themselves against strong competition, gain exposure, and potentially progress through to higher level pathways.
“For many kids, it’s a great stepping stone into tournament basketball that are not a part of the representative program and a chance to see what’s possible.”
Doyle said the club are excited to see local juniors having fun in an exciting tournament, and thanked the local community for their support.
“It is always a great vibe on tournament days with the music pumping and the crowd getting involved.”
“It is also a great opportunity for our local junior referees to develop their skills and gain experience in a different style of basketball.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our local basketball community; events like this simply don’t happen without them.”
