SCHOOL Sport Australia held its 44th national golf championships for players 18 years and under at courses around the Bellarine and Surf Coast recently.

Originally scheduled for 2020, the program had been delayed for two years due to the pandemic, but starting on Monday (August 22) last week individuals and teams from across the country finally got to compete against one another.

Teeing off at the Lonsdale Links and Curlewis Golf Clubs during the week, the final rounds and presentations for the various award winners took place at The Sands in Torquay last Friday.

Geelong Mayor Peter Murrihy presented Melbourne’s Rowville Secondary College students Amelia Harris and Alex Fedmoswki with the individual Australian schools titles in the women’s and men’s events.

Having won the individual titles, both were then named as captains of the men’s and women’s all Australian teams, meaning Victoria is at the helm of each peak squad.

The annual championships are held in different states or territories each year, and the last time it was in the state in 2013 hosts School Sport Victoria similarly decided to hold the event on the Bellarine.
