School’s in at Armstrong Creek

February 8, 2018 BY

ARMSTRONG Creek’s newest school has celebrated its very first day, with staff and pupils alike heading to class on Thursday.

The primary and special school in Central Boulevard rolled out the red carpet for its inaugural pupils, inviting them and their families to pose for pictures to mark not only the start of Term 1 but also the start of their education.

More than 170 pupils from prep to grade 6 were in attendance on Thursday, although the preps were only there briefly and had their official first day on Monday.

Armstrong Creek School will eventually accommodate 400 pupils at the primary school and 208 students at the special school – the year 7 to 12 special school students will start next year.

Principal Evan Savage said there was much excitement from everyone on the first day, and a lot of positive responses from parents.

“A number I’ve spoken to personally have said their children are bounding out of the house in the morning and coming home smiling; that’s the best feedback we’ve had so far.”

He said many families were leaving the car at home and walking or riding to school together.

“The connections are going to improve but people are already taking that opportunity.”
