LOCAL Torquay business Sportsboards is preparing itself for its annual pre-season rush with more than 120 stockists across the country and New Zealand getting their orders in for the winter season.

The woman behind the boards, owner Sheridan Jones, said the business can be seasonal at times in terms of activity, but remains busy “non-stop” year-round, annually delivering boards to hundreds of clubs and thousands of teams through its wholesalers.

“With sports like footy, netball, basketball, hockey, rugby kicking off after Easter, we’re preparing for our busiest time of the year, and while I am the face of the business, I do get a lot of help from family and friends around this time of the year.

“It’s good, though, I love it, so it makes the annual rush worth it at this time of year.”

June 6 will mark 10 years since Ms Jones’ late father, local football figure and former Torquay Football Club president Terry “Stretch” Jones, suddenly passed away at 63 from a heart attack.

This year will also mark 10 years since Ms Jones inherited and took over her father’s business.

Sportsboards has tactical coaching boards for pretty much every sport.

Ms Jones said she had a close bond with her father, as both were unashamedly the only Collingwood Football Club supporters in their family.

She also took great pride in continuing her father’s legacy and providing a valuable service to grassroots sports around the country.

“Dad touched a lot of people in the community, so there is a sense achievement for me to have continued his business a decade after his passing,” she said.

“My sisters and Mum have told me he’d be proud of what I have done to this point, and I can’t go past pointing out the help my sisters and Mum have given me.

“It’s still very much a family business, one that I initially thought might not make it to one or two years after Dad’s passing, let alone 10 years later.”
