Shire to recognise Local Legends

October 8, 2020 BY

THE Surf Coast Shire council has launched its Local Legends Awards to help celebrate the strength and generosity of the community.

Shire residents are encouraged to nominate people who make a positive contribution to the area.

Surf Coast Shire council general manager culture and community Chris Pike said these contributions could take many different forms.

“The Local Legends program highlights contributions people make to the Surf Coast Shire community and the environment in any of the following categories: building connections or strengthening our community; caring for our environment; improving inclusion and celebrating diversity; and promoting healthy eating and active living,” Mr Pike said.

“From community leaders, club volunteers, and people giving a helping hand, nominations for Local Legends are now open, until the end of January 2021.”

To nominate, people simply must write up to 100 words on why makes their nominee a Local Legend.

Mr Pike said council would look to frequently acknowledge the work of those who better the community.

“Local Legends will be announced regularly across council’s communication channels and shared with local media outlets – via print and online.

“We’re looking to recognise as many people as we can doing great things within our community.”
