Shop local for a chance to win

September 24, 2020 BY

Shop at Anglesea News and Lotto for your chance to win.

STOPPING at your local newsagent to pick up a magazine could be an important first step in supporting local business and could even lead to being supported yourself if you’re lucky enough to buy the magazine that wins you $50,000.

As part of National Newsagents Week, Anglesea News and Lotto is running a competition where shoppers can go into the draw to win cash simply for purchasing a magazine.

Corrine Nigro from Anglesea News and Lotto says their new magazine initiative was aimed at encouraging local shopping.

“If you buy any magazine from a newsagency and keep your receipt, you go into the draw to win $50,000 in cash, no strings attached,” Ms Nigro said.

“It’s a pretty big campaign that hasn’t been done to this extent before.”

Not only does buying a magazine from your local newsagent increase your chances of winning big, it also supports local businesses during a time they need it most.

“We are doing as much as we can to try and promote the shop local campaign, and this initiative ties in with that. Shopping local is extremely important.” Ms Nigro said.

She also explained the newsagent has been actively stocking Australian and locally made products to help other small businesses and artists doing it tough.

“We’ve been fortunate enough to remain open during the pandemic and we’re an important part of the community, not just for newspapers and magazines, but for office supplies, school supplies and other items,” Ms Nigro said.

“We’ve tried to put out as many locally produced and Australian made products as we can, like candles, cards and gifts.”

The Surf Coast community has already been making the effort to shop local, with Ms Nigro explaining she has seen an increase in local shopping.

“The local community has been stepping up and buying things from the local shops which you could normally purchase elsewhere or even online.”

Shoppers have until September 27 to buy a magazine and enter the draw either online or in store for the chance to win $50,000 and support local business.
