TORQUAY-BASED paint and textile artist Andrea Shaw has said that a Surf Coast Shire Council creative development grant has allowed her to explore and experiment with her work.

Shaw was a recipient of the Council Creative Development Grants Program last year, which has seen her maximise creativity and test new boundaries.

“The grant allowed me time for trialling of new processes and techniques I otherwise might not have, to push my painting practice in new ways,” she said.

“The support has given me space to test, adapt and refine these approaches, informing both my studio work and the direction of future projects.”

Shaw encourages fellow local artists to apply for the grant, which can turn artistic aspirations into reality.

The Creative Development Grants are designed to deliver funding that supports creative practice, enhances professional capability, and fosters sustainable career pathways for artists to strengthen a resilient local creative economy.

Applications for grants of $3,000 for individuals and $5,000 for creative collectives open on February 1st and close on March 2.

Shire deputy mayor Tony Phelps added his encouragement for artists to consider applying.

“If you are a Surf Coast Shire creative with an idea or even an early concept this grant is for you,” he said.

“This program supports development of ideas and growth of skills, contributing to our inclusive and dynamic creative sector.”

People in the region can also attend multiple drop-in information sessions throughout February, to provide a clear understanding of the grant and advice around preparing applications.
