ALL abilities band The Rockheads performed in Torquay last week for the Surf Coast Shire’s International Day for People with Disabilities event.

The council chamber was full for the performance, with people from across the community as well as several councillors and council staff in attendance.

People clapped and tapped along to the band’s feel good songs, with many also singing along when the band played “We are The Rockheads”.

The Barwon based band initially began as a short-term project, but decided they wanted to continue creating music together and have now been practicing and performing for more than three years.

Members come from the Geelong area, the Surf Coast and the Golden Plains.

The band aims to make music accessible to young people with disabilities, while also helping them be more involved in the community.

The event also included a talk from disability and queer rights activist Jax Jacki Brown, as well as lunch by dal Catering, which looks to provide employment opportunities for adults with special needs.
