MORE THAN 100 local women dressed in pink and teed off to raise over $14,000 for breast cancer research and program fundraising at The Sands Breast Cancer Charity Golf Day.

The sixth edition of the annual charity golf day directly supported Breast Cancer Trials (BCT), a group of world-leading breast cancer doctors and researchers based in Australia and New Zealand committed to improving cancer treatment and diagnosis.

At last week’s event, attendees played 18 rounds of golf out on course and enjoyed a buffet lunch, desserts and drinks from the The Sands Torquay cheffing team.

More than 25 local businesses contributed towards a huge event raffle and all entry fees and other individual and business donations were directly donated to the charity.

The Sands sales and marketing manager, Annie Glasson said the event far exceeded expectations.

“To have an initial goal of $10,000 and to beat the figure by over $4,000 was just an amazing outcome.

“We had many fundraising activities on the course, including joker cards which meant your expert golfing friend could play the shot for you.

“We also had activations out on the course and locally sponsored holes, which also helped with the fundraising.

“The Sands Torquay is super proud to support an event which will no doubt go a long way in helping those touched by breast cancer.”

Ms Glasson said The Sands was sure to support the event again next year and hoped to elevate it to even greater heights in 2024.

“We’ve been thrilled to support it over the last six years and are committed to trying to help find a cure for this in the future.

“We just want to continue to be creative in getting our community on board and elevating the research and treatment of breast cancer.

“It’s a wonderful event and one we look forward to bringing back.”
