YEAR 6 Torquay College students hosted a special Mini Activities Day (MAD) to promote fun and inclusivity in the school environment in a sustainable and educational way.

On Thursday morning, students from foundation studies (Prep) all the way to Year 5 students were given the opportunity to get involved within the Year 6 led interactive stalls and activities which included a haunted house, skate carts, basketball shooting, spin the wheel, face painting, photo booths and plenty more.

The mini activities festival day has been a common fixture at the college for many years, however, hasn’t been run since 2019 due to the pandemic.

To be apart of of the morning fun, younger students were required to provide a silver coin donation to each stall and then were free to run amuck in a venture of their choice.

Year 6 teacher Ross Herbert said the day gave all students the opportunity to share some fun with each other, while also giving Year 6 students the chance to showcase their maths and business prowess.

“All the school students were just jumping out their skin and were so excited to have the MAD Day back after a couple of years off, ” Mr Herbert said.

“The Year 6 students have done an amazing job in making their own stalls and activities for the event and have done so by using recyclable and sustainable materials.

“Our Year 6 students have a large amount of their curriculum centred around MAD Day, there’s plenty of maths involved within the activities and the kids certainly put plenty of work into the running of their stall to make it enjoyable and accessible for the rest of the younger students.”

Each student spent between 30-45 minutes sampling each stall and item on offer, with the skate carts and the basketball shooting activities having the longest lines and being the most popular throughout the early morning sessions.

The MAD Day festivities finished up at lunchtime with all students worn out and tired but all with a head full of happy memories that they look forward to recreating all over again in 2023.
