A MUCH-LOVED Torquay jewellery store has reopened its doors after a fire forced it to close for almost two years.

Silver and Sea Jewellery owner Sabrina Kingsley welcomed customers back to the Gilbert Street boutique last week, ending a 20-month closure following a major fire in March 2024.

The blaze caused extensive damage to the store, with rebuilding works and insurance processes, with the business shifting online for more than a year and a half.

Ms Kingsley said reopening ahead of the Christmas rush made the moment even more special.

“We opened last Saturday and we had so many people in here delivering chocolates, flowers, shortbreads, you name it – the community response was incredible.

“As a store, we’ve never relied on tourists. The local community is what has kept us going.

“When I first came here, it was all about building up. I reached that peak, and then the shop burnt down.

“They [the community] are so grateful we are back in town, and we could not be happier.”

Silver and Sea Jewellery is known for its unique, handmade pieces, each designed with a timeless aesthetic.

The boutique stocks jewellery in silver, 9ct gold and pearls, with a strong focus on jewellery designed to last a lifetime. Prices start from $20, making the range accessible to a wide range of customers.

Ms Kingsley said the closure did little to slow her creativity.

“While I had that 20 months off, I was busy making jewellery to keep my passion going.

“We’ve got everything here – there really is something for everyone.

“I want people to walk out of here with items that no one else has. It’s the biggest compliment to have people buy what you’ve made.”

Silver and Sea Jewellery is located at 3/7 Gilbert Street, Torquay, and can be found on Facebook and Instagram @silverandseaofficial.
