THE Torquay Community Men’s Shed will receive $15,000 in funding to help improve safety and efficiency for members around the club.
The local group is among 31 men’s sheds across Victoria to receive the funding as part of the Allan Labor Government’s 2025-26 Men’s Shed Funding Program.
Using the money from the grant, the Torquay Men’s Shed will purchase and install a new dust extraction system and thicknesser for members to use.
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said the Torquay Community Men’s Shed has become a fixture in the region.
“It’s where stories are shared, skills are passed on, and mates look out for one another,” she said.
“This funding will make sure that continues in a safer, more comfortable space.”
The Torquay group was formed in 2007 and welcomes people from various backgrounds, where they can form friendships, share knowledge and skills and get involved in activities.
Within the Men’s Shed, members participate in woodworking and metalwork, while also fostering a sense of connection and a space for community members to come together.
“Every project that comes out of the Torquay Community Men’s Shed reflects the generosity and teamwork of its members,” Ms Tierney said.
“It’s fantastic to see this grant helping them keep doing what they do best – supporting each other and strengthening the local community.”
The local grant is one of 35 for the program and is part of a total pool of $860,000 of awarded funding.
Since its beginning, the program has supported more than 500 grants across the state through investment and partnership with the Victorian Men’s Shed Association.
“Men’s Sheds are at the heart of so many communities – they’re where people come together, build friendships and find a sense of community,” Minister for Carers and Volunteers Ros Spence said.
