Torquay Rotary takes pet show online

November 26, 2020 BY

Joe and Sandy are among the entrants for the Rotary Club of Torquay's virtual pet show.

THE Rotary Club of Torquay are inviting pet owners to show off their pets as part of the club’s latest fundraising event.

The Pets On Parade virtual pet show is running throughout the month of November, and the club is encouraging everyone – especially local children – to enter a picture of their pet.

Entries will be accepted in the following categories: Dogs, Funniest, Golden Oldie, Cats, Cutest, Action Cat, Best “non-traditional” pet, Best friends

Entry is $5 per picture, with the proceeds going to two related Australian Rotary projects.

The first of these is End Trachoma. Australia is the world’s only developed country with the infectious eye disease, which can be prevented with good hygiene practices. Trachoma is still present in remote Aboriginal communities and can lead to permanent blindness. The World Health Organisation has a global goal to eliminate trachoma by 2020, and Rotary’s End Trachoma initiative aims to make Australia trachoma-free by 2021 (coinciding with Rotary’s 100th year in Australia).

The fundraiser will also go towards 100 toiletry kits for children in the Northern Territory, which will help to stop trachoma from spreading between children.

Pets On Parade has several great prizes to be won, provided by event sponsors Torquay Toys, Mobile Vet Geelong, Torquay Stockfeeds, Bunnings, Torquay Animal House Torquay and Surfcoast Veterinary Clinics.

Entries close on November 30.
