MORE than 800 Nippers will take to Fishermans Beach in Torquay next week for the second carnival of the Life Saving Victoria junior season.
Nipper Fest will take place on Thursday, January 8, inviting young lifesavers from more than 30 state clubs to the beach to enjoy a day of competition.
The annual event is traditionally the biggest junior event on the Victorian lifesaving sports calendar outside of the state championships.
Athletes will compete in both on beach and in water activities including swimming, board paddling, running, beach flags and wading.
Torquay Surf Life Saving Club will be looking to defend its title on home soil after taking the win at the 2025 edition of the carnival.
Club president, Matt Carmichael, said the club would have close to 200 of its own nippers competing.
“We are really looking forward to it. It’s sure to be a great day of competing for all the young up-and-coming lifesavers in the state.
“The location change from Cosy Corner to Fishermans Beach is sure to give us some more space to run beach events, which will be a welcome addition.
“We are always excited to host it and can’t wait to welcome everyone down to Torquay.”
The action will begin at 8am.
