Uber launches on the Surf Coast

February 13, 2019 BY

You can now catch an Uber to and from Lorne.

TRAVELLERS can now get an Uber further into or out of the Surf Coast, with the ridesharing service officially launching in the region.

People have previously been able to get Ubers in and out of Torquay, but last week’s launch means passengers can now call for a ride in all the towns to the south up to and including Lorne.

Uber state manager for Victoria Matthew Horn said the company had been working to build up the number of local drivers, and increased demand for the service had led to the launch.

“A number of our drivers in the network are already active in the area.

“One of the things we look for is a high number of people using the app, and where they are.”

As well as Torquay, Uber launched in Warrnambool, North West (Horsham) and Shepparton.

“We’re excited to bring ridesharing to Horsham, Shepparton, Warrnambool and the Surf Coast, providing another safe and affordable option for locals to get around,” Mr Horn said.

“In our experience in other cities, we expect the app will be busiest on weekends and during major events.

“We’re looking forward to providing locals with more transport choices to help them move about their cities more easily.”

He said user demand would determine if Uber would also roll out its Uber Eats food delivery service or its UberPOOL service (in which strangers heading in a similar direction travel in the same vehicle).

“The first few weeks are really critical.”
