VC story enthrals Torquay pupils
The students were part of an audience of veterans, carers, students and teachers who enjoyed a presentation and talk given by Iraqi veteran Gordon Traill, a photographer for the book.
Assisted by many other volunteers, Mr Traill worked with Mr Madden in covering 17 countries, 96 grave sites, all 100 Victoria Cross medal sets and interviewing 60 Victoria Cross families.
During the Book Week event held at the Torquay RSL last week, RSL president Bob Tyler presented a hardbound copy of the book to each school for their libraries.
At the Torquay launch, veterans, carers and students learnt about the steps that led to the book’s publication.
“It was wonderful to see the faces of the students as they listened to Gordon,” Mr Tyler said.
“They maintained interest throughout the talk and presentation and I was proud to present each school with a copy of the book, particularly as it is Book Week.
“I believe there will be many other students and teachers who will gain an insight to the dangers of war, how war can affect those who serve or have served, even those who were awarded the highest bravery award – the Victoria Cross.”
The book is now on sale through TPI Victoria via their website at tpivic.com, by phoning TPI Victoria executive officer Michael Williams on 9329 8844 or 0411 987 908, or emailing [email protected].
