Victorian households could get three hours of free electricity each day under a new state government offer aimed at cutting power bills.

The Victorian Midday Saver Offer, due to start from 1 October, would provide households three hours of free power in the middle of the day.

The average household could save up to $300 annually, while those with solar and battery systems could see savings of up to $1,070.

It will mainly benefit households that use electricity during the day, such as for appliances, heating or cooling, or charging electric vehicles.

More than 2.8 million households will be eligible for the offer but must opt into the scheme with their energy provides.

Bellarine MP Alison Marchant said the initiative will put money back into household budgets.

“Whether you work from home or use smart appliances you can schedule, the Midday Saver Offer makes saving simple,” she said.

“It’s about supporting Bellarine – easing cost-of-living pressure and delivering practical solutions that make everyday life more affordable.”

Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio has said the start date for the scheme is not firm and may be brought forward.

More details, including the time periods and prices for the offer across the state, will be released in May.
