ANY surfer, no matter their ability, can find a suitable wave along the Surf Coast and Bellarine this Christmas.
With warm water, gentle summer swells and long calm mornings settling in, the coastline will offer inviting conditions for everyone from first-timers to seasoned locals.
Here are some of the best spots to surf during the festive season.
Children and beginners:
Head to Fishermans Beach and Cosy Corner offer, gentle rolling waves ideal for beginners. Conditions here are often calm, with smaller swells during summer, making both locations reliable options for whitewater practice.
Point Roadknight in Anglesea also provides a mellow wave when the swell allows, with RAAFs near Ocean Grove is another safe choice for those just starting out.
Novice to intermediate:
Torquay Front Beach, Anglesea Main Beach and Lorne Front Beach are well-suited to surfers progressing beyond the beginner stage.
These beaches allow surfers the opportunity to move from the whitewater to green-faced waves and begin practising turns and basic manoeuvres.
Wave in the 1–3ft range are typical and provide enough push for surfers to build confidence and tighten up their skills.
Over on the Bellarine, Ocean Grove Main Beach is also a good option.
Across all beaches, surfers should remain aware of rocks, changing conditions and strong currents.
Experienced to expert:

More advanced surfers have no shortage of challenges.
Jan Juc, Fairhaven, Guvvos, O’Donoghues and Spout Creek regularly produce quality waves, with consistent 3ft to 6ft swells offering room to push limits.
On the Bellarine, the beach breaks along 13th Beach and the banks near Point Lonsdale deliver powerful, fast-moving waves, often with barrelling sections for surfers hoping to score some tube time.
After wrapping up your session in the water, make the most of the region’s restaurants, breweries, galleries and attractions.
