GEELONG’S budding tourism and arts professionals will have a rare opportunity to rub shoulders with local business leaders at a networking event next week.

Geelong Young Professionals (GYP) is hosting its tourism and culture networking breakfast on Thursday, which will offer peer networking opportunities and advice from an expert panel.

Tourism Greater Geelong and the Bellarine’s (TGGB) Brett Ince, Geelong Arts Centre chief and creative director Joel McGuiness, Platform Arts executive director Ilana Russel and Geelong Gallery deputy director of development and commercial operations Penny Whitehead make up the expert panel.

TGGB estimates the tourism and culture industries attract 4.1 million visitors and $763 million in spending each year, and Mr Ince said it created exciting opportunities for the sector.

“Geelong and The Bellarine is increasingly becoming a destination of choice with visitors drawn to our region’s nature-based adventures, culinary experiences and cultural hot spots,” he said.

Arts and culture leaders said they were also looking forward to sharing insights into what they said was their booming industry.

“The tourism and culture event is a fantastic opportunity to learn about what is happening in our local region,” Ms Whitehead said.

“I am thrilled to be part of such an experienced and passionate panel and being able to share Geelong Gallery’s future aspirations and strategies for growth in this important sector.”

GYP said the event would help like-minded young professionals to expand their connections, link with Geelong’s business community and learn more about the region.

Geelong Chamber of Commerce has supported the event, which starts at 7am at GMHBA Stadium.

Tickets are available at gyp.net.au.
