Vendors, agents and a successful buyer were left celebrating on Saturday as an inner Geelong gem produced a stunning auction result.

3 Fitzroy Street, Geelong sold for $2.81 million on the weekend, continuing a strong run of results for the popular Eastern Gardens-Geelong Waterfront pocket.

The sale price was double the price of the property’s last sale of $1.4 million in February 2016, which was before an extensive renovation.

In perfect weather on Saturday, an opening bid of $2.2 million sparked a three-way bidding war that eventually saw auctioneer Phil De Fegley drop the hammer for the winning price.

Ferris Gold director Michael Ferris said the property had attracted significant interest as its ideal location in central Geelong spurred the strong result.

“We had about 70 groups though the property through the three weeks of campaigning,” Mr Ferris said.

“On the day there were three competitive bidders, one of those was on the phone.

“We had a lot of local people through the property that want to upgrade or just love the area, it seems to be really well regarded, that sort of zone, and people seem to really enjoy it, which gave us great feedback.”
