Outdoor skills for life

September 8, 2023 BY

Y Anglesea Discovery Camp immerses children in interest-based outdoor learning.

At the Y Anglesea Discovery Camp, our dedicated Nature Program Team focuses on getting young people outdoors learning, challenging comfort zones and connecting with the natural world around them.

We immerse in interest-based outdoor learning, include cubby building, tree climbing, zip line, nature weaving/craft, bushcraft tools, whittling, bush cooking, survival and camping skills plus loads more outdoor fun.

Our programs focus on broader themes of bushcraft skill development, environmental awareness and support a youth-led philosophy all under the guidance of our passionate trained staff.

Regardless of age, learning through play is fun and engaging, children and young people are able to safely explore, imagine and create while making sense of the world around them.

We also know children who play outdoors connect to their environment and learn about weather, flora and fauna and weed species.

Regardless of age, learning through play is fun and engaging.

A child focused and unscheduled timeframe throughout the day, allows development of real life skills, learning by doing, and focus on initiative, creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

During the term, our team runs parent-supported Bush Playgroup and kinder age sessions for all Pre and Early Years age groups each weekday morning, and drop off Forest Skills programs for independent learners wanting to leap into independent outdoor play three day of the week (Wednesday/Thursday/Friday) on a weekly basis.

With sessions from those aged 4-9 years and 8-15.

The day starts as a community and is led by the young people, incorporates age appropriate themes, and allows time to be immersed and inspired in the bush.

Adventure is a stepping stone for lifestyle, connecting with people and places affords positive wellbeing and the outdoors is a tool for authentic learning and growth across the ages.

Themes of survival, bushwalking, fire safety, tool zone building and the creative possibilities that nature provides are as endless as imagination.

Our groups foster community connections, become socially competent, independent and also learn to love and look after the natural environment.
