Tryouts to be held for Basketball Victoria Country Championships

January 23, 2020 BY

Players of different ages and from different teams across the Surf Coast Basketball Assosciation will have the chance to try out.

THE Surfcoast Basketball Association is holding tryouts for young basketballers wanting to compete in the coming Basketball Victoria Country Championships.

Teams representing the region will play for the newly formed Surfcoast Chargers.

Surfcoast Basketball Association committee member Mark Gabell said it will be a milestone event for the organisation.

“It’s the first time we’ll be going as the chargers, and the first time the whole association will be represented.”

Gabell says the continued growth of the association makes the new stadiums being constructed Torquay particularly important.

“It’s growing pretty quickly, so we need to get into that stadium as soon as we can.”

The Surfcoast Chargers will have teams for boys and girls in the Under 12, Under 16 and Under 18 age groups.

The older two age groups will be held in Ballarat on March 14 and 15. The Under 12 will play in Bendigo from April 3-5.

The Surf Coast Basketball Association will pay for all the registration costs and loan singlets and shorts. Parents and guardians will be responsible for other costs, such as accommodation and stadium entry.

Tryouts will be held on February 2 at Torquay College. This will take place at 10:30am for Under 12s, 12pm for Under 16s, and 1:30pm for Under 18s.

People can apply by emailing their child’s name and the age group they are interested in to [email protected].

Applications to the tryouts close on Monday, January 27.
