Best longboarders to wax up for surf event
VICTORIA’S top longboard surfers will descend on Point Impossible Beach next month for the second annual West Coast Wax Up event.
The surf event will be held on February 8 and see more than 50 surfers compete on single fin longboards in individual and team disciplines.
$500 will be up for grabs for the winners of the men’s, women’s and teams’ categories.
The top five men and women from the inaugural event have secured entry into the 2025 West Coast Wax Up.
The remaining 20 spots in the men’s and women’s fields will open this Sunday, January 12 at 7am.
Event organiser Glenn Barry said the event was back bigger and better in 2025.
“We are hoping for much of the same this year and hopefully some amazing waves again.
“We’ve got some mega sponsors on board who have stepped up to help elevate the event.
“There’s a bit more at stake this year with the prize money, however it will still have the fun element with the teams and an old longboard expression session.”
A pre-event film night will support the event at the Barwon Heads Town Hall on February 7.
An afterparty with live music and presentations will follow the surfing event at the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club.
“Post event, there will be a great party atmosphere at the Torquay SLSC for its Swell Sessions event which we have tagged onto,” Mr Barry said.
“There will be five bands playing, and entry to this will be included in the registration of surfing in the event.”
The West Coast Wax Up is supported by Surf Coast Longboarders, Yeti, Wallaby, Boardsox, Soulty Seas, Ocean and Earth, Sunbutter Skin Care, Project Blank, Hueys Choice Surf Wax, Stator Bikes and Critical Slide Society.
