A NEW level of confidence is flowing through the veins of Surf Coast’s Big V men’s roster, riding a wave of momentum into this week’s matchup with Southern Peninsula.

The Chargers get on the road to face the Sharks at Rosebud Basketball Stadium, following an upset win over Division 2’s top side Craigieburn last weekend, aiming to collect a fourth consecutive win.

Surf Coast’s new signing Dexter Graham Jr said the Chargers owe Southern Peninsula a loss, after their opponents knocked them over at home earlier in the season by 16 points.

“They beat us earlier in the year when we were a few bodies down, so we are definitely heading to Southern Peninsula with the intention to get a win,” Graham Jr said.

“We know what they bring to the table, so it all falls on us to stick to our gameplan and the strengths we’re good at.

“If we lose, the blame falls on us only because we didn’t play to the best of our ability.”

Graham Jr has helped Surf Coast take its play to a new level, ranking second in the competition for assists with 5.1 assists per game and averaging 21.5 points per game.

The Floridian said he has enjoyed his first season down on the Surf Coast, embracing a different lifestyle and gelling with a new group of teammates who currently sit in fourth spot on the ladder.

“I love it down here, I love the culture we’re building here at Surf Coast and it’s such a great group of guys,” Graham Jr said.

“We have quite a few characters to be honest, but I’m enjoying my time in the Torquay area, learning new things and learning different ways to spend my time. It’s great.

“Dave [Scott] has been a great coach too, giving me the confidence to be me and allowing me to play my way where possible.”

A win for the Chargers, pending other results, could propel them to the top of the ladder as the side enters the second half of the season.

Surf Coast’s next home game takes place on June 22 when the Chargers face Mildura.
