December 20, 2019 BY

Torquay made Modewarre’s chase difficult, but did not have enough runs to spare.

TORQUAY and Modewarre met in Division 2 of the GCA to fight for a spot in the top four at Spring Creek Reserve on Saturday.

The two sides went into the match equal on points, and the match showed them to be quite evenly matched, with Modewarre sneaking home with just 10 balls left.

Modewarre were carried across the line by Brendan Wemyss’ run-a-ball 47.

It capped off an impressive match for Wemyss allround, as he took 2/34 in his ten overs with the ball.

In Division 1 Leopold finish the first week of their two-day game against East Belmont in a difficult position.

They were bowled out for 139, but claimed three wickets near the end of the day to stay in the game. East Belmont finished on 4/75, 65 runs from victory.

The BCPA saw teams play both Saturday and Sunday.

Barwon Heads may have felt a chance at ending Anglesea unbeaten run given their fine form in recent weeks.

However, Anglesea quickly took control, with opening batsmen Ned Cooper and Ashley Poulton putting on an 119-run partnership for the first wicket.

Cooper went on to become the fourth batsmen to score a century this season, finally falling to Luke Schilling on 123.

Schilling had a fine game himself, finishing with 5/72 despite Anglesea amassing 7/281.

Anglesea’s dominant bowling unit then secured a 126-run victory, as Barwon Heads ended 9/155.

Jan Juc returned to their early-season form by defeating Barrabool.

Iva Priest and Nick Smith claimed three wickets each to restrict Barrabool to 149, a target Jan Juc chased down with ease.

Ocean Grove moved into second as Dylan Thorley’s 6/36 saw Portarlington fall for just 100.

Ocean Grove took just 26 overs to claim a seven-wicket victory.

Elsewhere Queenscliff and Collendina are yet to finish their game. However, having posted a total of 263, Queenscliff will probably feel they have the advantage. This was despite Jye Hearps taking 6/74.
