CURLEWIS GOLF CLUB – August 15, 2019

The new 9th Green comes into play on Sunday September 1. Golfers will have to work out where to hit their tee shots to leave the best chance of hitting close to the flag on the wellguarded, enormous green. The green and surrounding area is looking marvellous.

The Eric Dohnt Trophy winner was decided on Wednesday. Congratulations to Bernie Ryan who came from behind to win by 6 after a fine, final round score of 39. The best 7 scores were taken from the possible 12 rounds during the year.

The Margaret Jones Knockout Final was hotly contested on Thursday, with the two Pams, (Roberts and Arklay), victorious over Bron Burton and Sue O’Brien. The match went to the 17th hole in wild, wintry weather. Well done ladies!

Sunday August 4: Mixed PAR – 39 Players. Noah Guida (11) shone with +3 with Paul O’Sullivan (7, Torquay GC) next best with +2 C/B.

Monday: August 5: Men Mixed 4BBB S’Ford: 86 Players –Denis Penny and Glenn Hopgood combined well to win by one with 45 from John Hargreaves and Phillip Larcombe 44. Women S’Ford: 6 Players – Claire McKay (13) 32. NTP: 8th – Denis Penny, 17th – And Golden Shot Winner – Richard Perry (2.13m and $50)

Tuesday August 6: Women 9 Holes S’Ford: 27 Players – Marie Bridge won by 2 with 18 from Bron Burton 16 C/B.

Wednesday August 7: Men S’Ford and Final Round of Eric Dohnt Trophy: – 116 Players. A) Peter Featherston (8) was back in form with 40 leaving 2nd spot to David Yelland (12) 39 C/B. B) Greg Taylor (15) won by 2 with 38 from Paul Ryan (19) 36. C) Keith Freeman (24, Howlong GC) shot 39 to win from Oscar Gregory (22, Wollongong GC) 38. NTP: 4th – David Boddy, 8th – Mick Henderson, 13th – Eric Fleming, 17th – And Golden Shot Winner – Martin Frankovic (1.17m and $103).

Thursday August 8: Women S’Ford: 32 Players – Unpleasant conditions for golf saw Pip Williams (16) score 33, one ahead of Gail Casey (31) 32 C/B. 9 Holes S’Ford: 9 Players – Margaret Fraser 13. NTP: 4th – Jay Magee, (Pizza on Madeley), 13th – Jay Magee, (Leura Park Estate), 17th and Golden Shot Winner – Vicki Carnie ($30).

Saturday August 10: Men PAR: 19 Players. The wet and wild weather continued but Daniel Wright (12) was good enough to finish Square. Eric Fleming (8) followed with -2 C/B. NTP: 13th – Matthew Walkenhorst, 17th and Golden Shot Winner – Chris Henderson, (1.54m and $19).
