A RECORD-breaking seventh wicket partnership between Arjun Sehrawat and Eamonn Vines has seen Geelong’s Premier men’s Firsts salvage a shaky start against Prahran.

In day one of the clash, Sehrawat entered the field with the Cats at 6/74 thanks to early wickets from the True Blues’ Shenuka De Silva.

However, a 186-run partnership from Vines and Sehrawat steadied the group, with both batters making tons in the process. It is the largest seventh wicket partnership in Geelong history.

Vines finished the innings unbeaten on 111, while Sehrawat went out on 103 to see the Cats finish the day at a solid 9/327. Brodie Symonds led the way with the ball for Prahran, taking five wickets.

They now must defend their total in day two of the clash this weekend at Toorak Park.

Geelong’s Seconds finished day one on 4/255 at home, largely thanks to a 93-run innings from opener Lincoln Koliba and an unbeaten 70 from Ashley Armstrong.

After electing to bat, the Cats’ Thirds also posted a strong score, finishing the day at 8/271 thanks to 89 runs from Ted Bain at Righetti Oval. Meanwhile, the Fourths were rolled for just 66 runs and now face an uphill battle to not lose outright in day two this weekend.

In the women’s competitions, the Firsts and Seconds were abandoned due to inclement weather, while the Thirds went down an Essendon Maribyrnong in a rain-affected clash.
