Torquay Hockey Club hold community fundraiser

February 6, 2020 BY

The Torquay Tornadoes have grown steadily since they were founded in 2010.

THE Torquay Hockey Club is holding a community event at Geelong Hockey Centre at the weekend for both people already part of the club and those looking to give the sport a try.

The event on Saturday, February 8 will help raise funds for one of their players, Maddie Burt, who developed leukaemia late last year.

The Saints Hockey Club will partner in the event, after offering to help in the fundraising efforts and participate in the day.

Torquay Tornadoes president Andrew Crowley urged people to support the event.

“We encourage everyone to come along to get involved. We would love to see the whole club attend, all juniors, seniors and families,” he said.

As part of the event, the Torquay Hockey Club will also be filming a video for VicHealth’s This Girl Can initiative, capturing the stories about the club’s place in the community.

A series of small games will be played on the day, which will be followed by a barbecue lunch.

Entry will be by a $5 donation.

They event will run from 10am-1pm.
