LEOPOLD had Colac’s number in the opening term of the GFL Semi-Final, kicking six of its 19 majors in the first quarter alone on the way to a 19.11.125 to 8.7.55 win, knocking out the Tigers from Finals contention.

The Lions’ 28-point advantage at the first break set in motion a four-quarter demolition of a the league’s runner-up during the regular season.

Leopold extended its lead to 45 points by half-time and then to as much as 90 points at three-quarter time.

Colac did well to pull back the final margin to 70 points, but it was a hollow victory to what was a disappointing end to the Tigers’ campaign.

Mitchell Patten was in good form with five goals, further bolstered by Jake Pitt and Brock Williamson’s three majors apiece.

Tom Feely, Connor Giddings and Liam Herbert had two each with Mitch Burgess and Sam Hughes each making the goal sheet.

Colac’s Frazer O’Gorman and Jonathan Simpkin were Colac’s only multiple goalkickers, while Adam Garner, Bailey Scott, Travis Woodmason and Zachary Zdybel each kicked goals.

The GFL race has been reduced to three, with Leopold to play Newtown & Chilwell at Norlane’s Windsor Park next Saturday, September 10). The winner will play St Mary’s at St Albans.
