Marlins take gold in Ballarat

Geelong Marlins' victorious Under 12 side.

THE Geelong Marlins Under 12 Mixed side have won the gold at the annual Ballarat Invitational Water Polo Tournament.

They emerged as the strongest team in their category, competing against sides not only from Victoria, but New South Wales and Tasmania.

However, it was Essendon who they met in the final, convincingly defeating them 4-0.

The result is indicative of the club’s growth. Two years ago they took six players to the tournament, whereas this year they took 40, including many from the Surf Coast and Bellarine.

Head coach Bec Talbot said it was great to see the club developing.

“I think word of mouth has been fantastic for us since we started.

“We’re continuing to get new members and new inquiries each week.”

Two Under 12 Mixed sides took to the water for the Geelong Marlins, as well as an Under 14 Boys and Under 14 Girls side.

The club also has younger teams for children aged seven to years old.
