GEELONG young gun Ollie Peake has been rewarded for an impressive start to BBL15, with the Melbourne Renegades locking him in on a new two-year deal last week.
In his first year on a full BBL contract, Peake has broken out to become a key component of the Renegades’ batting attack.
The 19-year-old played in six matches this season and made 167 runs, including some crucial moments to secure victories for his side.
His top score of 59 runs from 29 balls came in front of his home crowd at GMHBA Stadium, as Melbourne took on Brisbane to open their campaign.
However, the biggest highlight came in a thriller against the Perth Scorchers.
With his side needing four runs from the final ball, Peake stepped across the wicket to ramp the ball over the boundary for six runs to secure an incredible win for his side and truly announce his arrival in professional cricket.
Peake’s re-signing with the Renegades is just another chapter in his young, but already impressive career.
The rising star is currently in Africa, where he is captaining Australia in the under-19 World Cup, and has been earmarked as a future Test batsman for his country.
In the BBL, Peake will also become essential to Melbourne’s pursuit for glory as they look to build and invest in young and local talent.
