Price blitzes records at Masters Games

TORQUAY resident Philip Price has returned from the XVII Australian Masters Games with four gold medals.
Price competed in the 100m, 500m, 1000m and 2000m Indoor Rowing events for the 83 to 85 year old Lightweight category, winning all four
events.
On top of his success, as Price is 85 years old, his results for all four categories are now being ratified as new Australian records in the 85 to 89 Lightweight category.
Highlighting Price’s speed is that the time he set for the 1,000m race was quicker than any time set above to 70 to 74 age category.
Price said while he loved rowing, it was not something he had been doing for particularly long.
“I started off rowing in the UK and I was nearly 70 before I actually started, and then I carried on here.”
Price said he enjoyed the experience of competing at the games.
“It is a really friendly bunch. There’s a great atmosphere at the games. That’s what it’s all about, really.”
