BIG V preparations are under way for reappointed Surf Coast Chargers coach David Scott with the returning coach eyeing uncharted territory in 2024.

Scott, who was reappointed as Chargers senior men’s coach in late-October, said his side is primed to make Division 2’s finals for the first time in the program’s Big V history.

“I think there’s some unfinished business from last season, we made tremendous progress last year, so we’re hopeful we can further that again this season and we think we can do so.

“We can really make an impact in the division and catapult the program forward at the Big V level, and the women’s program as well for that matter.”

The Chargers senior men’s side, like their female counterparts, will commence their third Big V campaign in 2024 and are on an upward trajectory.

Surf Coast’s inaugural season endured some growing pains, displaying a dismal 3-10 record in 2022.

The Chargers responded extremely well, falling one win short of a .500 record with eight wins from 18 games.

Scott, backed by assistant coach Simon Jessen and Youth League squad coach Sam Johns, said he would certainly like to see his side make a finals push in 2024.

“There was obviously our first season which was a bit of an adjustment for the side, but last year was all about improvement and we saw that on and off the court.

“We drew in more players into the program and at the same time we ended up giving a lot more of our local players an opportunity.

“2022 was the first year we had a Youth League men’s side as well, and to now have the Youth League women’s side in the club for 2023, four senior sides in total, is really exciting for all those involved.”

Scott said signings are expected to be announced throughout January, with the season’s start date to fall similarly to 2023 in mid-March.
