Speedy sell out for Bellarine Sunset Run event

February 12, 2016 BY

THE inaugural Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run More than 700 runners, joggers and walkers will move their way along the Bellarine coastal trail between Portarlington and St Leonards, covering distances of 10 kilometres or 21 kilometres this Saturday.

Organiser Dion Milne said he thought the Bellarine was the perfect place for a run so was not surprised by the huge positive response from the public.

“Not only is the concept of a sunset run quite unique, this coastal trail is both spectacular and pristine – it needs to be run (or walked) to be truly appreciated,” Mr Milne said.

The 21-kilometre kicks off at 5.30pm at the Portarlington Pier, with the 10-kilometre starting Portarlington Pier while the sun is setting.

The picturesque track boasts magnificent views across Port Phillip to Melbourne’s skyline, the You Yangs, Corio Bay and beyond, which is why Mr Milne believes the event sold out so quickly.

“This coastal trail is one of the most family- and anywhere in Australia with numerous playgrounds and facilities right on course,” he said.

“If you are not running be sure to pack the picnic blanket as there are plenty of chances to set-up and park and barbecue facilities within a stone’s throw The Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run will operate as an environmentally friendly event with collapsible cups available for participants to up every three kilometres.

merchandise will be donated to the Bellarine Community Health Youth Services, an organisation that is important to Mr Milne.

“I’m particularly excited to have the opportunity to work in with Flying Brick Cider Co and the Bellarine Community to deliver not just a great event but also facilitate the opportunity to raise money and awareness for Headspace Bellarine via Bellarine Community Health and promote mental health,” he said.
