OCTOBER 19 was a big day for Coastal Boxing as Amy Turner and Euan Kennedy won both the junior and senior welterweight divisions at the Victoria Amateur Boxing League state titles.

As state champions they will both now fight in the Australian Amateur Boxing League in late November.

Ashley Lynch coaches both of them and said the pair had great skill and character.

“They’re probably the best couple of boxers I’ve ever worked with.

“They’re both full of enthusiasm. Like me, they’re both obsessed with boxing. So it’s a bit like a little boxing family.”

Coastal Boxing is also holding the “Torquay Titles” – an inter-club event – on Friday. The gym holds the titles about three times a year.

Lynch said a boxer winning it was a good indication they may be ready for amateur competition, but that the title was good experience for all involved.

“You can do as much pad-work as you like, or you can hit the bags until you’re blue in the face, but at the end of the day, if you’re going to progress you’ve got to get in there.”

The Australian Amateur Boxing League titles will be held at Punchbowl in Sydney on November 28-30.
