NORTH Geelong have kicked off their two-day campaign with a strong performance with the bat against St Joseph’s in a rain-affected GCA1 weekend.

On day one of Round 4, the Magpies finished at 5/206 thanks to an even performance from their top order and looked set for a larger score had the match not been delayed.

Adam Costello will head back in for North Geelong’s final 2.3 overs on an unbeaten 54, whilst Joeys Ollie King will look to add to his three wickets before the innings changeover.

Newtown & Chilwell finished their innings at 8/224 against St Peter’s. Skipper Lachie Sperling led the way for the Two Blues, posting 44 runs, while Saints bowler Jack Trewin took four wickets.

A six-wicket haul from Riley Stone saw Grovedale skittle Lara for just 142 runs as they look for their first win of the season.

The Tigers faced 13 overs with the bat before stumps, finishing on a shaky 4/35.

East Belmont have put together a strong performance with the bat on day one of their clash with South Barwon, finishing on 6/249. Opener Shane McNamara made 85 runs, while Lachlan Inglis finished unbeaten on 71.

The Swans can remain undefeated should they chase down the Lions’ total on day two this weekend.

In GCA2, Leopold bowled Highton all out for 153 and finished the day at 1/79, whilst Bell Park knocked Geelong West over for 144 and will enter day two on 0/80. Torquay finished all out for 180 against Alexander Thomson, and Bell Post Hill finished the day at 9/214 against Geelong City.
