AUSTRALIA’S first wave pool surfing event will take place at URBNSURF this month, with many local surfers to take part.

The Melbourne Pool Party will be held at the recently opened surf park in Tullamarine on March 15 and host the best surfers from across the state.

Several of these surfers are from the Bellarine and Surf Coast, including Cahill Bell-Warren, Ellie Harrison, Xavier and Ethan Huxtable, Isla Huppatz and Todd Rosewall.

The event will also include longboard and bodyboard sections. The competitors for these events have been invited based on the Victorian State Rankings.

Torquay surfer and Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson said it was an exciting step forwards for surfing in the state.

“Being able to host the first ever wave pool event in Australia alongside the URBNSURF team is amazing.

“We will be inviting 48 of Victoria’s top surfers, and with this new format we can hopefully create a fun and entertaining day of surfing.”

URBNSURF founder and director Andrew Ross said he was enthused to have established surfers embracing a new competition.

“We’re proud to support Victorian surfing, and the team at Surfing Victoria. Together with our technology partner Wavegarden, we have developed an innovative competition format that we’re excited to unveil.”
