TORQUAY Cricket Club is on the search for a new senior men’s coach for the 2024-25 season.

The Tigers have announced Leigh Kentish will depart the club following this season, after Kentish informed the club in January he would be stepping away from his post due to family commitments.

Senior men’s player and vice president Terry Hill said the club had begun the process of replacing Kentish’s position, with Torquay now accepting expressions of interest.

“Leigh’s been kind enough to give us ample opportunity to go out into the community to find the best person to take on the role going forward.

“Leigh’s done a great deal of work over the past two seasons with our younger senior cricketers and has set our club up in a really good position, this is evidenced through our club championship points which we are second at the moment.

“We feel like we’re in a good position going into finals soon, which Leigh’s done a fantastic job of setting up over the past two seasons.”

Kentish arrived at Torquay for the 2022-23 season from BPCA club Anglesea, immediately helping the First XI to a Grand Final berth against Murgheboluc, which Torquay lost by five wickets.

The Tigers, who Kentish will complete the 2023-24 campaign with, have already secured a Semi Final appearance and will look to go one better than last season in their bid for a GCA2 premiership.

Hill says Kentish will remain “engaged” with the club despite not holding any official title at Torquay Cricket Club next season.

“We will look for someone that can engage with our younger playing group, because we believe we have a real strength in our 16-22 year old age group at the moment.

“Our club is in a really good position to have long-term success; we just need a coach that is able to invest time in those guys to get us to that next level.”
