US elite point guard basketball clinics held in Geelong

May 16, 2018 BY

American basketballer Julian Harrell ran elite point guard clinics with local kids enrolled in the iconnect2u Sports Basketball Academy recently.

JULIAN Harrell attended and ran elite point guard clinics with local children enrolled in the iconnect2u Sports Basketball Academy at Northern Bay College in Corio recently.

Harrell is an American basketball player, who is now an NBA free agent and looking forward to playing and training in the US professional summer basketball league in California.

Northern Bay College Academy members participate in a year-long elite skills development plan.

Academy participants are from Year 9 through Year 12, and, in addition to their normal year-long skills development program, were treated to ‘one on one’ technical skills, shooting drills (three point shot and free throws) and training and nutritional tips with Julian Harrell.

He is the first of the US pro guards that will be travelling around Australia, the US and Asia at various iconnect2u Sports Basketball Academies, before returning to the US to participate in the US pro summer circuit.

“In addition to learning skills first hand from a professional US point guard, our kids get a direct understanding of what it takes to succeed at the US university and pro levels,” Jarmal Richard from iconnect2u Sports and The Point Guard Academy said.

“During the year, our Academy kids are benchmarked for performance (with our scouting software and performance categories) and a few will hopefully, through hard work and high benchmark scores/results on the court and in class, will earn the right to participate in our super skills camps in California this (American) summer.

“We look forward to our continued work under the two-year program established by principal Fred Clarke, Steven Lewry and Ben Lowery at Northern Bay College, and to seeing the kids continue to grow and enjoy the game of basketball.”
