Young surfers offered elite coaching opportunity

March 3, 2016 BY

TALENTED young surfers from the Surf Coast and beyond are being offered an exciting coaching and education opportunity in term 2 this year.

The Saltwater Institute in Torquay will bring together talented surfers and high performance intensive technique development and competition-focused training.

The young surfers, from years 7 to 9, will spend afternoons, as a group, at Surf Coast Secondary College where they will pursue a rigorous curriculum with a focus on ocean, surf and coastal studies.

Director of the initiative, Sam Magree has taught in a program for elite skiers and snowboarders at Mt Buller for a number of years.

“While previously, similar programs have existed for tennis players, skiers and in Australia have been offered such an opportunity,” he said.

“As former WCT surfer, and one of our head coaches, Dan Ross said to me, he wishes something like this was available for him when he was starting out.”

Sam welcomes enquiries from interested parents or surfers on 0402 106 357.
