The dance school caters to those looking for fun and self-expression but also for those looking to put their heart into something more serious.

Dance is what Torquay Dance Acade is famous for and they now have their very own home in world-class dance facilities in Torquay’s Business Park.

Does your child like to twirl like a ballerina? Groove to the latest songs? Are they flipping and doing the splits or singing up a storm with their favourite Disney show? With Ballet, Jazz/Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Acro, Contemporary, Tap, Boys Only Breakdancing and their specialised Under 5s Tinkerballerina classes – every child who loves to dance will find their place at Torquay Dance Academy.

The teachers there, under the guidance of principal Kim Fraser, want children to make sure they find the dance style that suits them best so offer free trials for all their classes.

“Ballet is always a great foundation and our head of ballet Terri Maher is a worldwide accredited Cecchetti Examiner,” explains Kim.

“This means she is sent around Australia to assess and examine other budding ballerinas and we’re fortunate to have her right here on the Surf Coast.

“On the other end of the dance spectrum, the Musical Theatre program is exploding as is our Dance Acro and Under 5s Tinkerballerinas program. ”

Torquay Dance Academy will be putting on its tenth show this year and it all started when Ms Fraser created her specialised and unique way of teaching ballet to Under 5s “Tinkerballerinas” famous on the Surf Coast.

“I’ve spent a decade inspiring little ones to dance and making sure they are taught the fundamentals of ballet but in such an engaging and creative way they don’t even realise they’re learning,” she says.

“I’m really proud of what I’ve created and so proud of the qualified dance teachers who are now heading up each department.”

Many Surf Coast children have been a part of one of their famous School Holiday Dance Camps, with the last one over the Easter break seeing Surf Coast kids produce a music video on the shores of the main beach.
